Arctic Oil & Gas Corp. (Pink Sheets: AOAG) is an oil exploration venture company that has filed for the exclusive exploitation, development, marketing and extraction rights to the oil and gas resources of the seafloor and subsurface contained within the “Arctic Claims.”
An Exclusive Rights Claim to the Hydrocarbon Resources of the Arctic Oceans Commons was formally lodged by the Company and its partners with the United Nations and the five Arctic countries on May 9th 2006.
The Company intends to operate as the ”lead manager“ tasked to create a multinational joint venture consortium of major oil companies, whose technology and managerial expertise will be vital to recovering the oil and gas from the harsh, deep waters of the Arctic in an environmentally safe manner.
The last giant oil frontier on Earth is in the arctic. The Arctic Ocean Abyssal floor is increasingly believed to hold vast reserves of untapped oil and natural gas, which is expected to become accessible as new deep-sea drilling and hydrocarbons production technology has become available.
A preliminary assessment by the US Geological Survey (USGS) suggests the Arctic seabed may hold as much as 25 per cent of the world’s undiscovered oil and natural gas reserves. And competition to claim parts of the Arctic seabed is likely to intensify as Arctic energy reserves become more accessible and the price for oil rises. The region could be ice-free in the month of September as early as 2040, according to a 2006 study sponsored by the US National Science Foundation and NASA.
And the world press has suggested that the Arctic Commons area may hold enough hydrocarbon resources to eventually overtake Saudi Arabia to become the "Swing Producer" for the US.
Within an area approximately ten times larger than Iraq, recent scientific drilling and seismic found something to gladden the heart of any oilman: New indications are that oil source rocks containing large percentages of organic rich sediments cover the entire Arctic Ocean seafloor, which was once one great fresh water matted Azolla-rich pond, capturing untold billions of tons of organic sediments.

The Arctic Oil and Gas Corp., and its Consortium partners have a viable, politically, environmentally and commercially sound solution for easing the global energy emergency by careful shared development of the Arctic oil and Gas resources contained in the Arctic Ocean Commons area.
Major independent oil companies have access to a strong prior claim to the Arctic Commons hydrocarbons through the US public company Arctic Oil and Gas Corp., and its partners, including the private company United Oil and Gas Consortium Management Corp., which made a solid international Arctic Commons hydrocarbons claim on May 9th 2006. Thus, Arctic Oil and Gas and partners prior claim to the Arctic Commons hydrocarbons has priority under customary international laws of discovery.
The Company has a viable politically, environmentally and commercially sound solution for easing the global energy emergency by careful shared development of the Arctic oil and Gas resources contained in the Arctic Ocean Commons area.
Because of the extreme operating environment and delicate ecology it would be preferable for one overarching strong commercially responsible, globally represented organization to manage and develop the Arctic resources. This will eliminate the often illogical and sometimes dangerous compromises due to artificially prescribed national boundaries, lack of capital and expertise of governments and individual companies and-or narrow politically motivated restrictions.
”Experts say after 2016, oil production will drop tremendously,“ said Anatoly Opekunov, deputy director of Russia’s Research Institute for Ocean Geology and Mineral Resources. ”Every country, including Russia and the US, is thinking about this.“
The biggest energy prize today is still Oil and increasingly Gas -- especially the world's largest still untapped and undeveloped reserves, of which the Arctic Ocean's Commons region represents probably the biggest prize ever to be potentially made available to the world's independent oil and gas companies. |
